History

Ames Golf & Country Club was formed in 1911. The original Club, a nine-hole golf course with a clubhouse and swimming pool, was located south of Ames, Iowa. In 1971 land was purchased and a new golf course built at the present location, north of Ames.

The grand opening of our new facility at the present location was held on Labor Day 1974. The Club consists of 164 acres, including a well-manicured golf course, a heated pool, and two tennis courts. The pool facilities are available Memorial Day through Labor Day.

The renowned Donald Sechrest of Tulsa, Oklahoma, designed the 18-hole, 114-acre course in 1971. The golf course boasts lush fairways, tees and well-manicured greens irrigated and surrounded by a few small, well-positioned lakes. Also included are an ample Practice and Teaching facility and a large Practice Green.

Pond Project

Well the completion of the digging and excavating has finished.  You can see all the photos if you visit my Picasa public photo site.

The final project looks absolutely stunning, here are some photos showing the improvements, in such has the expansion towards #1 fairway and a secondary pond built on #3.  Brad Benson and myself are very excited to have a clean deep pond to which to work around for our 100th Anniversary Year!  The new white rock that surrounds both ponds will aid in soil erosion, pond grasses from establishment and keeping those pesky musk-rats at bay!

We will begin our sod and seed work around this pond as soon as possible to make sure your 2011 golf season will be spectacular!

Enjoy!
