As most home owners know, the blades on your mower need to be shappened several times during the growing season, just as those are, we also have that process but on a much larger scale. With the reel style of mowing (Our Greens, Tee and Fairway Mowers) you have several other factors to deal with, for a reel that isnt absolutely sharp and true every single day adds substantual stress on the grassplant. Below are photos illistrating part of the process on grinding, but before that can even begin several hours must be spent on each reel getting it ready for the season. This would include going through all bearings (front and back rollers) reel bearings, grease zerks and replace any other damaged components along with a brand new bedknife. Here at AGCC we have 6 greens reels, 3 tee reels and 15 fairway reels that we will be going through. Once all pieces have been replaced the grinding commences, to which we use the Bernhard grinders at Veenker Memorial Golf Course. This process of grinding happens 3-4 times a year but we also do regular maintenance on the reels before each and every mow to ensure a perfect cut.
Hopefully this has givin you all a better understanding on the perfection that it requires to do just a simple job as mowing greens.
